Rockridge, a charming neighborhood nestled just north of the hustle and bustle of Uptown Oakland, is a dream for a woman who wants to be surrounded by cosmopolitan flair and homey coffee shops.
From Crush on College, a chic women’s boutique carrying unique lines fit for the opera, to the Rockridge Market Hall, where you can sample raw organic cardamom and clove almond butter, to Oliveto, where you can grab a glass of champagne or Smitten, where you can indulge on made to order ice-cream.
Stroll down College Avenue, the main street in the neighborhood, and you will encounter Rockridge Day Spa, one of the hidden gems in the area. More than just a spa- it’s an alluring, community oasis that offers a wide array of luxurious services. I was beyond excited to spend my Glow Day with their lovely team. I chose to receive a Microdermabrasion Facial and, with Valentine’s Day fast-approaching, a sugar brazilian wax.
My appointment was in the afternoon, so I had a full day to relax. I began the day taking dance class at Hipline with my friend visiting from Washington, D.C. After class, I headed home to shower and make my way to Rockridge.
For lunch, I stopped in to Oliveto and savored their Wild Arugula salad with a side of bread. After eating, I strolled the three-or-so-block walk to the spa while window shopping at the different gift and lingerie shops along the way.
When I walked in, their Lead Concierge, Zephyr, greeted me with her fabulously bubbly personality. Zephyr is an absolute doll and made me feel very comfortable about the services.
I had never received a sugar-based wax or microdermabrasion before, and she talked me through the entire service before introducing me to Krystal.
Krystal did my brazilian and is a true delight. Maybe it’s her background in theatre, or sincere love for helping women feel good about themselves, but I immediately felt comfortable with her.
After the brazilian, I put on a plush, cotton, tube-top style robe for my microdermabrasion service. A few minutes after I changed, Elizabeth walked in with a cup of tea.
Elizabeth is the owner of the spa and such an inspiration. As she performed the facial, steam and extractions, we chatted about the health benefits of getting a facial and her exciting plans for the business.
After the 75-minute treatment, Elizabeth left the room and I relaxed for a few minutes before exiting the room.
My skin has never felt so soft or looked so dewy. If you live in the Bay Area, look up Rockridge Day Spa and book an appointment.
And if you’re not in the area, Oakland is one of the hot spots to visit. Don’t take my word for it, the New York Times said so. Make a luxurious vacation and call Rockridge Day Spa to book an appointment. And mention that I sent you.
