Money Date With Aleph Beauty

Every Friday I recommend having a money date…with a mimosa. Hence the name of my blog, Money & Mimosas.

Your money date is your special time to review your finances, celebrate your wins, and reflect on how you used your money to make a difference. Feel free to do it alone or with your money buddy. If you’d like a step-by-step guide for your money date, click here to download your free checklist.

In these money date articles, Money & Mimosas features small to medium-sized businesses that practice sustainability and ethical sourcing. This week we’re featuring Aleph Beauty, a pure and natural luxury makeup brand based in New Zealand. We caught up with their founder, Emma, to learn more about their products and commitment to being people, planet and animal friendly.

What inspired the creation of your business?

Having worked as a makeup artist for over 2 decades, and unofficially studying health, nutrition and wellness for a large portion of that time, I came to realise that what we put onto our bodies is as important as what we put into it.
After spending several years running an ecommerce natural beauty store, it was still hard to find products that ticked all of my conscious beauty boxes all at once. I’ve always had a fascination with creating custom colours and textures in my work and my own brand was a natural progression from my retail business.

How does your company focus on quality and sustainability?

I’m very choosy when it comes to all aspects of the business. People, Planet and Animal Friendly is the filter through which we make all decisions for Aleph. We vet every ingredient and select the ones that best fit our criteria. We are also constantly working to fine tune and improve our sustainable practices.

How are your makeup products different from those sold at drugstores?

Aleph products are quite different to the average makeup. Each product is designed to be used in more than one way. This means that there is far less wastage as customers are able to own a whole lot less products, yet be far more creative with them. Aleph is designed to be easy to use and adaptable to all skin types. By tweaking the way it’s applied and what it’s paired with makes this range infinitely customisable so that the wearer can create the textures and colours they like. This allows people to be able to adjust their makeup from day to day, season to season and even different times of life.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs thinking about turning their passion into a full-time business?

Stick with it, be tenacious AND always be willing to pivot.
