Money Date With PainFix

Every Friday I recommend having a money date…with a mimosa. Hence the name of my blog, Money & Mimosas. Your money date is your special time to review your finances, reflect on your goals, and celebrate your wins. Feel free to do it alone or with your money buddy. If you’d like a step-by-step guide for your money date, click here to download your free checklist.

I usually like to treat myself during my money date and visit a restaurant that inspires me to elevate my lifestyle. Since we’re all experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, I’ve been doing my dates at home. Instead of featuring restaurants, I’m showcasing awesome small business owners who are making the world a more beautiful place.

In this article, you’ll meet PainFix, a natural solution to pain relief based on centuries of wisdom from Chinese Kung Fu masters.

About PainFix And Its Chinese Kung Fu Roots

In 2019, I did a photoshoot for this incredible company and met the two founders on set. They officially launched their website and company in April. I caught up with them last week via email to see if they could share their business wisdom with the Money & Mimosas community.

What inspired you to launch PainFix?

PainFix is a business that is close to heart because the herbal formula used in our products come from my family’s kung fu heritage, and the integration with physical therapy exercises in the PainFix Recovery Kits comes from actual field experience in our chronic pain clinics.

You could say that I was inspired to launch PainFix because I firmly believe that there’s a better way to treat muscle and joint pain. This belief began with observing people in chronic pain recovering in my parents’ traditional Chinese medicine clinic, and now is boosted by the scientific studies we did on our herbal formulas. Furthermore, there hasn’t been much innovation for decades in the over-the-counter pain relief space. Almost all products still rely on old ideas that only treat symptoms by masking pain signals. There is also no education by those brands on the importance of movement for our bodies nor any emphasis on prevention.

Our idea is to create a holistic system that integrates effective formulas with an informed and preventative philosophy. We want to help you unlock your body so that you can achieve your potential. We want to build long-term relationships with our community of users to continually educate you on the best practices to keep your bodies functioning optimally without pain.

What financial advice would you give to someone who is looking to start their own business?

It’s always better to start a business from a position of financial and emotional security. So start your business as a side project, while holding on to your day job, if possible. This will actually allow you to think more originally or freely about your startup.

It’s also important to experiment. When you are launching a new product or service, you won’t know what works unless you test it out first. Designing prototypes that are cheap and can fail fast is the way to go. Perfecting your idea can be done later in most cases.

This doesn’t just work in the tech space, where it was arguably pioneered. For example, when I first expanded my parent’s traditional medicine clinic to incorporate modern physical therapy modalities, I wasn’t sure if the public would accept it. So we worked with a small budget, keeping our renovation and equipment costs low to make sure that it was not a financially devastating event if the new branch failed.

Can you describe your company's process for ethically-sourcing ingredients for your products?

Firstly, the medicinal ingredients used in the PainFix Relief Gel and Restore Patch are all-natural. When we performed scientific studies on the anti-inflammatory properties of the herbs, we did so with standard human cell tests. No animal testing was involved.

Secondly, over 70% of Chinese medicinal plants are gathered in the wild, often times unsustainably. Our herbs, however, are sourced from farms in China, not from the wild. We work with wholesalers that have a long history of purchasing from larger-scale farms that grow the herbs on a more sustainable basis.
