A Fancy Date Night Without Breaking The Bank

Trying to figure out how to do date night when your budget is low is not easy - especially when you’re used to spending some cash on elaborate dates together. Nick and I have certainly been through this transition. A couple of years into our relationship, we decided to have a weekly date night. Every Friday night was out time to turn off our phones, go out and enjoy each other’s company. Well, the food, drinks, Lyft rides and the occasional extra activities started to add up. After several months, we decided that we were going to shift our dates and do them at home.

Whether you’re dating, engaged, or married, having consistent date nights is essential to keeping the passion alive and the communication open. Although it can be tough to balance if you have a family and kids crawling around your feet, it is well worth the extra effort. And it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. You can have a fancy date night without breaking the bank. Sure, you may not get as many chances to buy Book of Mormon tickets (I so want to see this play!), but you do get to spend quality time laughing and smiling together. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some fun date night ideas on a budget and that don’t take a ton of planning.

Five Fun Date Night Ideas

  1. Board Game Night. Nick and I love to play Anomia. Even though it’s a lot of fun with more people, the two of us always have a good time playing. Whip up some fun snacks, a pineapple mimosa and play board games all night with each other. Whenever you have a date night at home, make your place feel extra special by tidying up a little first. Put the toys away and clean the house, then have a shower and get dolled up. You can still look and feel attractive for a date night indoors - and it’ll make the evening feel that much more romantic.

  2. Watch a stand-up comedy show on Netflix. I’m someone that falls asleep during every movie we put on at home. Even if I like the movie! However, I always stay up for comedy shows. Combine it with a fancy cocktail and it’s almost like going to a comedy show in New York City.

  3. Try A New Coffee Shop. Going out for a meal can be very expensive and not ideal on a budget. However, a coffee at a local coffee shop isn't going to break the bank. Play the game of choice: so, you choose each other’s order and you have to stick with it no matter what. This can be fun and flexible and you’ll get to try new things.

  4. Go For A Walk. Sometimes, the simplest date ideas are the most effective. Nick and I love to make a fun cocktail and bring it with us as a roadie on the walk. Choose a local walking trail that you haven’t explored before and stroll hand in hand to discover the best views. Sometimes we like to treat ourselves to ice cream afterwards as a fun twist.

  5. Enjoy A Picnic. Make a picnic together and find a beautiful spot in a local park, countryside or on the beach. Endless hours of conversation are so much easier to have when you have somewhere beautiful to enjoy it!
